today i went to see one of my favourite bands in the world: SOULFEGE! They are really really good! great rhythm, lovely voices, and they make you
dance! i love watching bands play... and Soulfege is a 12 piece band,
no less! horns section, 5 primary vocalists, drums/rhythm section,
keyboads, guitarS, bass.... it's really inspiring to see young people
put so much energy and life into something that they are really really
passionate about! in many ways, Soulfege is more than just a band! they
are also a social change movement in the making! a musical kind of
activism. they bring a new excitment and vibe to hip-hop/funk/soul
music with a wisdom and energy of old with a vision for the future!
they are using music and the arts as a tool for social change and a way
for engaging african people on the continent and in the diaspora in
re-evaluating how they perceive themselves and their development, and
also in how the world sees africa. it's a beautiful project which i'm
excited to see grow!
